Gripped by this one. Listening as audiobook and the reading by Sena Bryer is so good. Alix E. Harrow’s review said, “you’ll know you’re at the halfway point when you start screaming and don’t stop” and holy hell, I’m there right now.

"Vasya knew that... [he] had beaten her at a game she had not known she was playing."

I've been haunted all day by this phrase, how much it says and doesn't say, all day. Looking forward to figuring out what comes next!

I'm enjoying this book so much that I daydream about reading it when I'm forced to onerous things like work and make dinner. And I'm loving my bus commute (even more than usual).

I looked at the blurbs for both books 4 & 5 to figure out which one was 4 - so now I know how this book ends. Sigh.

I'm "reading" this via audio book / podcast via the CraftLit podcast. I can't quite remember the story, so it's quite suspenseful for me right now.

I read this book several times 20 or so years ago and loved it for the young-woman coming-of-age story, the pieces about living off the land and healing with plants, and the richly developed culture and spiritual life the author has created for the Neanderthals. Since the 6th book in the series has finally been published, I thought I'd re-read them all. It sucked me right back in, like an old friend (which it is).

I actually read this when it was first out and loved it. I'm in the mood for some good fiction right now so thought I'd read it again.
