I clearly slept on Peter Cameron and now I must read everything he’s ever written.

I'm scared for when the perspective change comes because I love Ann's point of view so much. She's all heart and rocking chair soul.

I LOVE Gabi's voice and how none of her life situations feel forced. This wasn't written for the "drama" but for the "feeling."

I'm halfway through and I'm just terrified and disgusted and traumatized. Just when I think it's going to be okay, a new horror starts. It's never okay. This book is giving me nightmares. I have to finish it because I rarely give up on books but it is so disturbing, every page.

Cassie is on page 140 of 260 of Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman
I am laughing out loud at work and doing that really weird silent, mouth-open, jack-o-lantern face (or Jack Nicholson as Here's Johnny!). It's embarassing, but not only that, everyone should read this book because it's so honest.

I find myself (literally) writing in the margins throughout this book. Asking myself questions, giving myself pointers on what to write about. It's insane how much this brings to the surface for me. Thanks, Solnit. Has anyone read all of her books and can recommend me a next one? Not sure why I started here other than this one spoke to me at the time of buying... (I'm in a lost place at the moment).

I am amazed at how much Jiles does with two characters and a landscape. This book is so moving, literally and figuratively.

I'm kind of in love with Cho-hanna's little bright face after Kep-tan talked the soldiers into moving on. The descriptions of setting in this book are too beautiful and perfect. I've always loved a character driven book, but I could read her descriptions of the landscape all day.

Because teachers don't get shit on enough, Lindsey Lee Johnson has to join the fray and make them look like they're cast-offs who instead of uplifting and loving children, they use them as pawns to lift themselves up. Her Twitter bio says "fierce defender of teenagers," but by making teachers seem (again) like they're not actually human and just little figurines of stereotypes, she's doing more harm than good.

Guys, I'm not going to lie. I'm SUPER disappointed by some of the plot choices in this book and all these professional reviews are talking about its "brutal honesty of high school," but while she gets some things right, she gets other things SO WRONG.

OHMYGOSH GUYS, THAT FIRST CHAPTER BROKE ME. Educators SHOULD NOT read that. High devastation (kind of like altitude but with ugly crying).
