Started with chapter 7 on history and Haskalah for some research I'm doing and decided it was worth reading the rest of the book for my own enjoyment and education

Muuuch better development of character backgrounds, relationships, and world than we saw in Babel. Kuang is finally letting her characters be people in a story rather than stick figures spouting ideas. It seems like she still has a ways to go as far as including academic ideas in her books in a natural-seeming way, though. They just list people instead of grappling with their arguments.

v good so far. discussion on holocaust denial could have been better
