Emily Brontë 100 yrs in the future? This is already one I know I’m gonna love. The child-ness of the main character is frustrating to me but I think it’s supposed to be. Girl USE UR VOICE !!!!

I am eating this up. When I read The Fawn last yr, I wasn’t necessarily obsessed, but since then Eszter has lingered in the back of my mind. Magda Szabo strikes again, I am completely taken in by Gina.

Already read it but I’m in my Gogol ear and I’m loving it. (Era auto corrected into ear and actually I think that’s appropriate)

Oh my grief. I’m shaking. I can’t believe Jane, I can’t believe her strength, let alone in the face of such brutal strength. I want to be her mum, I want to hold her so close, tell her she’s safe, she’s ok, she’s not evil…

It’s taking me approx 1 million years to read this 200pg book bc I just keep spiralling into reflection !!! I am so intrigued by charlotte and what it would have been like to be a voraciously intelligent woman artist when she was. I can’t stop thinking about how anger shows up, is it a wish for revenge? I don’t know yet.

I’m struggling w this one for a wide range of reasons. I really don’t know how I feel about the book as a whole thus far, but I read a part in public that I wish I didn’t read at all, let alone in a very chill cafe where the other patrons got to watch my facial expressions.

At some point, Mark, in a way that’s so intelligent it’s depressing, spells out why he won’t choose a drug-free life. And it made perfect sense. Enough sense that it shook my confidence as someone who wants to work with addictions.
Later, after 20pg of unrelated horror and discomfort inside a sick mind, we see a response to Mark’s logic. And it’s real, it’s compelling… the hope caught me off guard.

— You stole the books from Waterstone’s bookshop, with the intention of selling them, he states. Sell fuckin books. Ma fuckin erse.
— No, ah sais.
— Aye, Spud sais, at the same time. We turn aroond n look at each other. Aw the time we spent gittin oor story straight n it takes the doss cunt two minutes tae blow it.

This book is growing on me more n more, this is wow

I’m ngl it took a min to get in to bc 1. The language used and 2. How truly scary some of the characters are, like I don’t want to be inside their heads, it’s fucking awful.
I’ve gotten past the language thing very recently in the book and the reality of it hit. What does someone do with their time when they are devastatingly addicted to heroin? Welsh presents the play by play of horror from the actors POV.

I love this man. Anyway hey doctor pals (hehehe) u should read this!!!! The biopsychosocial model is definitely something we’ve learned about but never to the depth that Dr Mate covers even in the first few chapters of this book.
