Extremely disappointed. I’ve been waiting on this book for maybe three years now? I don’t know if the writing is worse or I just don’t like Kawakami as much as I used to. But this is just not good at all. The writing is clunky and the dialogue is unbelievable.

Really enjoying this. Picked it up after about a month because of reading other things. Easy to read, but I do dread reading the Nakata sections as they just aren’t as strong in my opinion. I prefer the introspection from Kafka, but I’m expecting it all to pay off

Literally right before I pick this book up I get interested in a specific topic or question, and the next thing I read is specifically about that. I was reading separately about the dissolution of the Templar knights and the next part was about that, and today at work I was wondering how medieval children were treated and the chapter I read tonight was on that!

This book is really pissing me off

IM SO HOOKED

I’m bored. I like the story a lot and a lot of the descriptions are fantastic, but also a lot of it is extremely millennial in a “I’m so feral and chaotic and I’m not a woman because I contain multitudes” as if all women don’t contain multitudes. I’d edit a lot of this out to be honest.

Some really good lines and paragraphs, but not altogether strong enough to justify the grotesque — I want to give it a chance but it is very dire
