Cathy Ames…her spirit bit me. The evil, the poison, the venom bit me right here.

I lowk don’t give a damn about Heathcliff and Catherine’s children. Not as interesting, not as complex—let’s wrap this up

What if instead of a cosmic blessing, a splendid coincidence, a fated happenstance…finding your soulmate cursed you from that moment until your death—yes death, singular, because you are one and the same. One heart, one mind, one soul, divided and doomed to never be united. A love so wretched and curse it lingers and curses those who come after. OHHHHHHHHHHH MISS BRONTË.

I love mountains. I want to live by them one day. NOT THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS THOUGH (or the Catskills or the Adirondacks) Beautiful to look at, a nightmare to actually be/hike in. Especially in the warmer months, according to this book.

The Odyssey, set in the American south during the Civil War. The Homeric retelling I didn’t know I needed…

When you’re able to tell you’re currently reading one of your new favorite books…there’s nothing like it.

Good prose is like good music. There’s a rhythm, a cadence, a melody that sings sweet and is easy to follow. As I get older, I find that good prose is what I value most when reading a book. I don’t always come across it, but when I do? Oh boy. William’s prose here is…magnificent. I have been immediately captivated. He does so much with so little. Love.

I have switched to several translations as I’ve been reading, which has been half of the fun —seeing how different translators interpret the work! Big fan of the Katz version as well as the McDuff! P&V can kick rocks.

Why did no one tell me Dostoevsky is funny? This book reads like a Wes Anderson film (Tenenbaums specifically) and it is delightful. I’m sure it will have it’s moments of seriousness, but so far I have been having a giggle every other page

Erich, the brother who feels too much and tries to hide it. Amos, the brother who doesn’t feel enough and tries to hide it. I love good food.
