This is a sad slurry of every YA novel that has been popular over the last 15 years with no overarching plot or idea. The events and character motivations are totally disconnected and nonsensical. I am very disappointed in this as I was initially excited to read it. I am getting really sick of these hackjob cash grab fantasy novels with a weird informal tone that really takes me out of the story.
