Ms. Woolf surely had a beautiful mind! Her sentences are artfully drafted and sometimes quite complex. She probes the thoughts of multiple characters with exquisite detail and subtlety. This is a book that requires one's full attention. A slow read is necessary to savor its richness.

Chapter 17 is really something. A symphony of thoughts. All going to hell. Boeuf en Daube is served and, voila! "Plate"-onism!

I read the first novel, "To Walk the Night." It's a very unusual sf/horror mashup. Sloane is a skillful writer. His style seems contemporary even though this was written in the 1930's.

Random quote, by the seventh reader in the library: "'The ultimate meaning to which all stories refer has two faces: the continuity of life, the inevitability of death.'"
