Margo was looking for dirt on Curtis Bradshaw who lives in the Dream House with his husband and little daughter. She snoops around so deeply she nearly loses her job and ends up in rural Arizona lying to a former student of Curtis to admit he'd used her turned in assignments for his memoir and gather concrete evidence. Only she returns home early from that made up work trip to find her husband lying to her, too.cool

No romance subplot so far, very PG/Disney, I'm pleased :)

The Skinwalker encounter in the canyon in front of the locked door is chilling to the bone for me. I can hardly believe how engaging and decent this book had turned out to be. I wonder if there's movie out there...

Is Jin the rebel prince? Or is he foreign born?

Surprisingly well written for a YA novel. I love how the action and adventure kick off from the very first page. Gives the same feeling as a Disney movie set in an Aladdin-adjacent world/Wild West. So far it's intense, Amani comes off as a great, opinionated, fierce, level-headed and confident young woman to follow along with. I'm actually excited!

This is so excrutiating! This drags on forever, for such a short book.

I really enjoyed it up till 1960. Then onwards it became too modern.

This book reminds me why I love reading. Incredible.

Mieko thinking she could overturn destiny by establishing her own matriarchal dynasty of sorts is propotetous and rebellious, and yet by doing so she ends up harming the women closest to her, namely Yasuko and Harume, and mostly herself by abandoning her research and her intellectual enrichment in the name of mythological revenge.

Sadako hiring that private eye was brilliant. Mieko Tagano having been punished for adultering by having one retarded kid and another who's dead by age thirty is so satisfying. I keep trying to draw parallels to either the tale of Genji or the Noh masks which is fascinating as well. The intrigue and stakes are high, Japanese tenelovela of sorts.

The love triangle is weird, but maybe it's alluding to the Tale of Genji that I'm not familiar with. The folklore and art aspects are interesting.

So far a heartwarming story about a housekeeper and her son working for and learning from an aging memory impaired maths professor. Lots of number theory quirks and fun facts that sparks an interest in analyzing random number you come across - is this a prime number? A perfect number? A resin prime number? Sounds like a very soothing practice. Lots of baseball references, but they're okay.
