do find it a bit odd that the autistic supporting character has trauma from being controlled and infantilized by her neurotypical parents, then five pages later the author proceeds to describe said autistic character as a child and infantilizes her in all her proceeding interactions............ seems like a bit of an oversight.

i would sooner welcome the very first drafts of an intro to crwr class than ever read three entire pages of a horror movie being paused, ever again.

hoping this gets addressed, bc there seems to be a very glaring plot hole where both times the anguis have caused monumental destruction for the hierarchy (the collapse of a transvect, the incident at the naumachia) vis is there. vis is involved. at what point does anyone get... suspicious??

vis continues to be the greatest main character ive encountered in a long time. just a wholly, unabashedly kind boy who will defend anyone, even his enemies, against cruelty or oppression. i have tired of vicious antiheroes masquerading as do-gooders.

moshfegh scratches a literary itch like no other. introspective wet dream.

when did the writing get so.......... ham-fisted? between saintly calgary cowboy runs to vancouver to solve the housing crisis to all of these melodramatic flashbacks of ellie, we're getting off track.

i don't like that those snails are ardently fixated on spiralling revenge quests, and i especially don't like that snails are on the cover.

my adoration for emily only continues to evolve in book 2:
1) she is not nice
2) she has no patience for grifting, tone moderation, half-assed methodology, petty jealousy, or people.
3) she will slap a bitch, if the situation presents itself.

hard not to fall in love with miss wilde when she's as voracious for her passions as she's disinterested in the world around her. familiar.

god i need this book to be over, i cannot stomach this man's treatment of cassie any longer.

love the prose, but i have a feeling this book is going to end up like dark places....... hoping to be wrong. but i'm calling two killers who worked in conjunction and staged a faux-satanic/ritualistic killing. bond was soured by some bad, bad break-up later on. modern-day killing was staged by one killer to harm the other etc, etc

maysilee donner is the best character collin's ever put to page, bar none.

am convinced this book was actually written for paranoid readers with ocd in mind. ulciscor knows what's up
