I want to listen to blackthorn again. Even though I've listened to it twice since it came out in October.

If March isn't on the menu... this restaurant just doesn't have anything I'm interested in.

OMG I forgot how much I loved March and his entrance in this book was... delicious.

Just getting back into this series. I started it early last year

Finally getting back to this series I started early last year.

This little british boy with no friends is now an orphan. He is 9. (or 10. it's unclear.) The small silver lining is he should be getting his letter to Hogwarts in 2 years (or 1. It's unclear.)

somebody is an unreliable narrator, but I don't know who.

This one is crazy... she marries the guy who killed her son. And the guy is her son's age. And he's just been in prison for 10 years for manslaughter of her son. And they got married in the prison so his family couldn't interfere.

It's like a parent whose child can do no wrong in their eyes. They love that child and have so much empathy for them that it clouds their judgment and they end up not parenting the child properly. The same happens with authors. We love our characters SO much and have so much empathy for them that sometimes we let them do dumb shit and try to justify it.

And because different readers judge heroines more or less harshly for their behaviors... particularly if deemed dumb, I'm sure some readers who judge more harshly have DNF'd a book of mine where I've had the heroine monologuing too much about why she did something the reader thinks is dumb. But I have I think a pretty fair judge of characters and I STILL think this bitch is dumb. WTF?!???! GET OUT OF THAT APARTMENT.

Authors often lie to themselves about how dumb the heroine is. You know that thing where the heroine is overly monologuing about why she's doing dumb shit? Yeah... that's to get the reader on board so your idea will work. I don't think I write dumb heroines, but I've definitely had a time or two where I've had to overexplain heroine behavior to try to keep readers from turning on the heroine.

The reason the "stupid heroine" trope happens is because an author has an idea of how they want a story to go but the only way they can figure out to do it is to make the heroine do dumb shit. It's self indulgent on the author's part. Either figure out a plot way to make it happen that isn't lazy or pick a different chain of events. NEVER MAKE THE HEROINE DUMB. I have zero sympathy for this character now.

I love this author and I will never leave less than 5 stars for a book so I won't be starring or officially reviewing this one because as a fellow author I'm not going to harm someone else's star ranking and potentially their sales, however, this heroine is legitimately the dumbest bitch I've ever had the misfortune to encounter in fiction. I'm finishing this book because I will take great delight in her misfortune.

I genuinely HATE this heroine. she is such an idiot. I'm so mad at her stupid behavior.

I'm rereading this one (Or actually listening to the audiobook) because I'm about to start working on the expanded edition ending. And holy crap I love this book. First of all on the audio Jason Clarke and Addison Barnes were both PERFECT for their respective roles. And when I listen to this I honestly can't believe I wrote this. I love Macy's weird facts.

also not sure why I didn't mention it about Gold Mine yesterday but holy shit balls at that cliffhanger!

I'm only 1 book behind schedule now and only 5 books to go for the year.

I have to finish 6 more books this year to hit my 2025 challenge.

I need to listen to 9 more books by the end of the year! (I'm 4 behind schedule.)

I am LOVING this book. I have NO idea what's going to happen or how it all ties together but this book is CRAZY. (not a romance. it's a mystery/thriller, but you can tell the author is a woman because she understands women's lived experience too much and the women don't sound like they're in a Noir film from the 1940s)

I can confidently say I want this to happen to me. Stumble upon a blockbuster that shouldn't be there, walk in and go back in time to 1999. Yes, please. ALSO she gets to go back to the age she was in 1999 but with her current wisdom and memories. SIGN ME UP! Needed a bit of a break from dark and filthy. Will get back to Psyop Kings and Kiss of the Basilisk after this.

This is a SLOW burn... like... they don't kiss until book 2 and don't "do it" until a later book. And the other books aren't out yet. I don't know how many books there will be though.

I can't imagine how on earth these two are going to get to Bow Chicka Wow Wow.
