So I just made it past the cat torture scene, and the bit where Oshima had 'trumped' two 'angry feminist' by revealing that 'I am biologically a woman, but I am gay' in one 'haha got you' moment. What else do I have to look forward to?

Rereading my favorite series and realizing exactly just how much I DON'T remember of books I've read... I am Shooketh. Is it just me who has the memory capacity of a floppy disk or do people also suffer this book amnesia?

Unfortunately, like The Dreaming Tree, this one is utterly basic fantasy nonsense. None of the drive and creativity of the raksura books. dnf at 18%.

The whole passage of Reiko being like "I'm kind of a lesbian but I'm not really a lesbian" made me roll my eyes so hard. There are other sexualities out there ya know???? Also like... another predatory lesbian. A 13 yo at that. Just great.

Why do male Japanese writers always come back to how big a dick a guy has and how many girls he'd fucked?
Also snobism alarm, watch out, these guys are AUTHENTIC because they read CLASSIC LITERATURE so they are not like OTHER PEOPLE.

My audiobook version of this is acting up, and I can't muster interest in this story to commit anyway, so I'm switching to ebook so I can skim.

Only about 2 chapters in but i already feel my IQ plummeting with Louisa's narrative. And there's 16 hours of this bullshit. I'm gonna try for a few more hours and see if this don't land in my dnf pile.
