Slow as hell with this, as usual. The most interesting sections still rock, but they can't happen without the more boring maneuvering chapters of conversations in sitting rooms and tents.

The author's lucky that he made it work, because this Star Wars bit he just did could very easily be "obnoxious referential nerd" stuff. I've been on board so far but this gave me pause, leaning too much into an open attempt at making us laugh with him.

As it is, I gave it a "heh". It probably won't go over as well the next time.

If the humor here is missing me (I get it, I just don't vibe with it), the story itself is interesting and the chapters are nice and short. Short enough to tempt me to read more when I should shut off the light and go to sleep. I don't mind it at all.

In preparation for the movie and a related upcoming book club. I last read this in '03 and I remember very little of it aside from the killer ending and the sense of adrenaline rush.

Re-experiencing this one via audiobook. I'm entranced and remember why I enjoyed the prose the first time through, and it's much easier this way for some reason.

There's no guarantee that i don't finish this today.

The recent movie drew heavy inspiration from this- which means it's a great time to revisit it.
