<spoiler> I'm only just realizing that this book that January is reading and that we're getting passages of is written from Julian's POV, her father! </spoiler>

M&E argue because E's mom could screw them over... I see Maddie's perspective, but what exactly does she want Emma to do in this situation? Say what to her mother, try to force her to...?? I feel that Maddie is being way too harsh in her descriptions and mean to Emma. Also that Emma is being too idealistic as well, but this whole discussion/fight felt really immature to me.

I think there's more here, maybe January has some unharnessed magic? Mr Locke is secretly an alien or something

Tess just had a big emotional moment, big decision too, and this scene is with Mars?? Really bummed it wasn't with Ryan, to improve the emotional connection 😔

This is a lot of creative sex in a book where the sex scenes aren't really furthering the plot nor the character work...
I mean, the sex is how the people cast the magic. He's not making emotional connections with it, therefore my stance is they're not even titillating? Feel weird about this book atm

I think the narration is switching between telling the story, the narrator including commentary, and also addressing me/the reader. While cool as a concept, I don't feel the narrator is distinguishing these very well, so I have moments of confusion wondering who is talking, then have to back up to re-listen.
Also there are a lot of characters... I'm interested, but also a tiny bit frustrated. May try to get the ebook

2. the writing: Jasper is SO affected; do NOT understand why the mc is so against him, nor why Jasper seems so into Charlie?
3. it's confusing me: the mc is confused, CONSTANTLY questioning every single thing, but also the entire setting and what's happening is confusing??

I'm actually really having a fun time with this book! I think it's steamy and fun, there's strong D&D/ttrpg energy laced throughout...
Have been a couple moments of meh logic or bad decisions or assumptions made, but really-- that's just life.

I'm not really sure how I'm feeling about this. The writing is interesting, but also "apart" from me in a way I can't describe. I've liked the philosophical bend of the MC's thoughts, and how she's logic-ing her behaviors; and now some action has happened.
But I don't feel I know what the point of this book is yet, or where it's going, and so I'm just kinda strolling along, minorly invested 🤷‍♀️

Pause at 30%, it's just not really doing it for me rn, and kinda forgotten what's going on too?

This is... boring.
There aren't any stakes or tension, *nothing's happening*
-He's HoH/deaf, but she can sign fluently
-She's his best friend's sister but Brogan (😬) has already said he's cool with it
-They're both hot, single, consenting adults...
-He plays football and she likes football
-She's opening a dance studio, he helps
If there's no conflict, there's nothing to resolve, so it's just boring right now

You know, I'm actually enjoying reading an alien romance where the characters aren't super physiologically compatible! Interesting to see how this will be handled.
So many alien romances I read have the alien (male) basically just be a very strong human-like guy, well endowed and maybe green or with horns. In this book, there's a lot going on-- which completely fits with an alien

'Magic?! Not real!' says the girl who can manipulate metal and recently tried to kill someone using said ability... ??

She's on the edge of death, pinned to the ground by the sword and coughing up blood, but manages to use magic, stand up and move, draw a sword and swing it, talk... 🤨

Did we need an Old Yeller/Airbud moment here? Jeez 😭

Okay, now the tagline is making sense... How are they going to pull this off?
