I felt like book 1 was pretty much wrapped up and was wondering what book 2 would even cover. I am 53 pages in and I feel like I should have stopped at book 1. While I wouldn't say it is bad, I more am feeling it just isn't necessary. It is recycling old emotions about her parents a lot. Some "bad gifts" to worry about, a random focus on a girl with different color eyes, nothing seems to really be "happening" yet.

Slow start so far. A lot of the focus is still on Snow fixating on what a bad mom she had despite her now being dead. I hope they move on some from this.

While beautifully written, the plot is so slow I get bored. And I hate Henry. He is so whiny.

I really am enjoying this book. I will say that I don't think the description of it described it very well though. It made it sound like it would go onr way but that isn't what happened at all. I am glad because it is much better. I have found this with several indie books, the idea that their description doesn't do the plot justice.

Did not see that twist coming! Wow!

I like that the author doesn't make her happen to know how to do everything. The character admits she wouldn't know how to begin fixing her leg with her magic, and stumbles through things in a natural way. She also isn't a bumbling idiot that the reader can't believe to be surviving. Great realistic abilities and actions so far.

Beautifully written, the plot is so slow. I am often bored. I typically like slower plots, but this book often feels like nothing is happening or it is on repeat. Also, I hate the character Henry. I find his personality frustrating and I hate that at least in the beginning he took advantage of people under the spell and found it totally OK. He takes no responsibility for folks not liking him on their own, typical guy

Reading this for book club. Not the kind of book I normally read - not a of books that blend fantasy into the modern world that read as contemporary fiction. So far, it is very stereotypical of the "I inherited some big crazy house" stories. 1. An over-the-top relative 2. something happening at the funeral that is made to make the girl look "weird" despite being cliche. I'll try to push through.

Beautifully written, but extremely slow. Not saying it is bad slow, just if you aren't in the mood for a books where the first 30% of the book is mostly her just walking around 2 different cities interacting with everyday people with very little happening but living, this won't be the book for you. I enjoy that type of book when I am in the mood. I think plot-wise I would have preferred it as an artsy movie.
