Not gonna lie, I am not enjoying the Daughter of Vengeance parts.

Was a bit hard to get into. The language is very poetic, but also very beautiful. The story finally moved to Layla's point of view, which is much more interesting.

Ok, so I've had some minor quibbles about the writing, but the love interest's eyes changed to blue after being described as grey all this time. This really bothers me.

No surprises here with the ending. It was all rather formulaic.

Persephone is much more appealing to read about when the author isn't trying to throw around a lot of young people slang. She's been fine for chapters and then all of a sudden Persephone's calling some girl basic. In the parlance of my (older) generation: Gag me with a spoon.

How can they own a completely paid off piece of property and owe a half a million in debt? They own a business, so it's not like they don't have an income to pay bills. And its not unpaid taxes, because they aren't dealing with the IRS.

"She'll tell us when she's good and ready." What the absolute fuck?! Y'all aren't gonna point out that it's her keeping secrets that fucked the whole household over in the first place? There is no reason for her to keep this secret. Keeping it solves nothing. Shit like this as a plot device pisses me off so much.

"Big dick energy". I shit you not, those words were actually on the page.

The use of the word "lit" makes it seem more like "How do you do fellow kids?"

Surprise, surprise... Two other men against the witches are named Bartholomew Gedney and John Hathorne.l

Everything about this book is too on the nose. "Men's World", a tequila that stokes anti-witch sentiment called "Salem Witch Trials", a witch-run distillery called "Moonshyne"...

The names are all terribly on the nose. It's not even subtle. A promiscuous witch named Jezebel? A botany witch named Ivy? The town's asshole preacher named Cotton fucking Mather? I am impressed the author restrained herself from naming the clairvoyant witch Sibyl or Cassandra.

I keep reading because I am curious as to where the story is going, but holy shit is the MC as dumb as a pile of rocks. Clearly she is well-educated, but she has fuckall for any sort of common sense. She makes far too many stupid assumptions and contradicts herself often. Having skipped the first book I am wondering if this is supposed to be seen as endearing and not annoying?

I thought Raina might be Scheherazade. She is not. I can see who she is now.

Reading because my cat is in a bad way and at least I can do it by her side. The story is quite interesting. The characters aren't likable, but are still compelling. I am curious as to see where things go. To find out who Will really is. Raina too.

Alex is reminding me of why teenagers are awful. Her unfocused anger reminds me too much of me as a teen.

Not much has happened except a lot of backstory, but it is still *intensely interesting*. Wish this wasn't a library book so I could highlight parts. There is some good writing here.

Weird, but enjoyable. I'm going to have to track down that side story the author wrote about Dr. Bisset.

Definitely getting some "Dune" vibes from this. I am intrigued even if I am still rather confused by the boneghosts.

I am on chapter seven. No one has been murdered, no crimes have been committed (except psychological child abuse) and Inspector Gamache has yet to make an appearance. I am fine with that, oddly. The lives of the people of Three Pines are somehow really interesting.

Simenon's first Maigret book and it is obvious in the writing. He is more deliberate with his language and descriptions in his later novellas. As it is now, I am almost 50 pages in and I am not entirely sure what is going on.

I was so engrossed listening to this book during my drive to an appointment that I accidentally drove halfway to work instead. I love Simenon's Maigret stories and the narrator is doing an amazing job with this one. I am curious as to where this case will go. Who was the killer?

Just had to look up "chilaquiles". They sounds delicious.

I am not even sure how to categorize this book, but I love it. Noemí isn't the sort of person I think I would like in real life, but I love her as the heroine here.
