How am I only at 71%?! Had I known it was 500 pages I never would have picked it up. It’s Mariana Zapata level slow burn but all of their interactions and conversations are forgettable. Michelle is a drag. She only ever “says what she means” and yet she lies all the time.

These characters are beyond too stupid to live. I don’t know if I can keep going

Just started reading this to my 5 year old tonight. Here’s a list of words he asked the meaning of in chapter one: grubby, blubbing, fishy, fool, drafty, rafters, explanation and humor.

The MMC is such an exhausting nag. Every conversation consists of him lecturing her in a condescending way over semantics that literally don’t matter.

This conflict contrived as hell so far. There’s a difference between keeping secrets from your partner and not being willing to share every confidential detail about your job and missions during WAR 🫠

DNF | not sure I’ll come back to this. Not connecting with any of the characters. There’s a lack of depth—the FMC in particular is two-dimensional.

You’re a reporter!!!! What are you doing talking to the police?! Shut the fuck up and ask for an attorney 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Almost half way through and I am struggggggling. I loved the first one but the plot of this one is boring af. They constantly be inner monologuing instead of actually communicating.

I think Meghan Quinn’s writing style just isn’t for me. This will be my 3rd DNF by her. Why do her characters always feel comically unrealistic? I gave this one a real college try but I can’t slog through it anymore.

Skimming to finish honestly…

How is this book SO GOOD? Possibly my favorite Tessa Bailey ever.

I’m having a hard time connecting with the FMC. She seems very young for her age.

I wish I had known from the beginning what a petulant child the FMC was going to be. I feel like I’m in too deep to quit but the dialogue between MC’s is pretty insufferable.

I am so invested now. Glad I didn’t DNF like I wanted to initially.

I keep telling myself this MUST get better if so many of you loved it.

DNF 6% | The writing style reminds me of Bridgerton the show—fluffy, modern and a bit cheesy. If you’re in the mood for that style def give this a go, it just doesn’t have the historically accurate feel to the writing that I’m looking for atm.
