Andrew Miller has an amazing talent for story telling particularly if history is involved. However he also has a most unusual and fascinating imagination that conjures up the most unlikely scenarios and makes a lot of other well known authors seem very pedestrian.

There is something about Steven Carrol's writing that I find intensely moving. He captures outer Melbourne so skillfully that you can smell it. The rhythm of his prose, and his use of language is
quite amazing.
