Trigger Warnings: off-screen physical and sexual abuse to a minor character. Basically(adding my other updates), if you have a trigger, avoid this book 😆

Also, there is heavy reliance on the Catholic Church in this(which I get because it’s based on Dracula vampires) but thought I’d mention it as another possible trigger

I feel like this would make a really good limited TV show too

Trigger warnings (so far) for other readers: Homophobia(plenty of slurs), dead dog

You could almost make a drinking game out of how many times “breasts” is said in this story.

So far, it’s a good story. It does a lot of back story dumps, but it’s all necessary for the story so I can’t reply count it as a fault.

Around 50% in is when I found that it started to get the most interesting

I am not very good with names, and there is a large cast in this. I may need notes hahaha

My thoughts so far: I’m getting you’re supposed to realize that the MC is “morally grey” but I’m leaning towards “lawful evil.”

I should also mention the obvious trigger warning: violence and vividly described gore, including of children and babies.

With that long training arch at the start, I expected more fighting, but this climax is more (spoilers) of a mental and spiritual fight. Actually, she barely does any physical fighting at all in the book outside of the training arch.

Another trigger warning: very descriptive sexual assault talk. It does not happen to the MC, but is told to her

Another trigger warning: drug use. This one I sort of expected with the title of the book, but thought I would let people know just in case.

So far so good! Just heads up on trigger warnings for people, there are mentions of self harm.

Interesting! It’s not exactly thrilling, but it is very well done so far and the characters are great.

So far so good! I like the focus on friends.

I was listening to the audio book from the library but I won’t be able to finish it in time before it returns and you can’t renew it while others are waiting, so I’ll have to be patient and wait until I can continue again once it’s my turn again.

(I have an immune disorder so I can’t go to the library for a physical book, and I can’t afford to buy books at the moment)

I think if anyone I know tells me they want to read this series, I will tell them to start with this book. It is better written and treats women better, and it won’t take long to catch on to past plots.

This book is still brainless entertainment with occasional some problems, but also kind of fun

Wow. This book started strong, but now I’m not sure about this one. The characters are likeable, but the level of fan service is something else.

People say the books get better after this one...hope so

If you can get past the sexualization of women, this is a fun book so far. I love the mix of folklore. This author did his research
