Unrequited love. I think I may be an expert at this particular malady. So I feel qualified to say that Proust really gets it!

How true is this first volume! I know unrequited love when I see it, I'm probably an expert actually. As I read Part Two I can't help but scream to Swann to get out of there; yet I fully understand why he doesn't.

I think Proust understands these things deeply. I also understand these things deeply. Though unlike me who flounders about, Proust can turn it all into literature.

I'm not reading this particular translation. I'm reading the Zinovieff and Hughes translation. I don't think it would matter either way. After reading this I think I will find "delight even in a toothache". I'm hoping I'll connect in part two :)

This is one of those books that you don't want to end. Like a special friend that you don't want to lose.

I wish work wasn't the all consuming monster that it is right now. I just want to be left alone to enjoy this wonderful novel.

I like the ideas but it hasn't grabbed me yet. Maybe it will before the end?

It's entertaining but not great. The human dynamic is interesting. The best thing about this book is the ink sketches in the edition that I'm reading. I really love them!
