I’m not gonna lie it’s depressing the scale of massacre committed, but what strikes me even more is how completely unaware the average American knows about the atrocities here. I would assume 90% of people I know aren’t even aware the US has ever diplomatically pressured Indonesia, let alone armed and encouraged the killing of somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-3 million innocent people

I’m liking this one quite a bit so far. Pynchon was ahead of the curve on the unending soulless maze that is the American suburb

I had no idea the people of New Orleans had such hate and vitriol reserved in their hearts for the humble hot dog man

Disjointed as it may be, I’m enjoying the aspect of this work that serves as functionally a collection of reviews, essays, and blog posts that all point(loosely) in the same cardinal direction.

“Depression is, after all and above all, a theory about the world, about life.”
Starting off a bit jumbled but compelling nonetheless, Mark Fisher gets very personal. But of course, the personal is deeply political. What Francis Fukuyama’s feeble neolib sensibilities failed to properly convey with “End of History” is so far more completely communicated in Fisher’s retrospective on the death of the future

A deeply uncomfortable truth is laid out very plainly here: the Nazi occupation and ethnic cleansing of Eastern Europe was explicitly planned in the manner of the American genocide of native tribes in the West. While It’s very difficult for many Americans to conceptualize themselves as the bad guys, the truth is that America set the example that has inspired some of the most vile crimes of past the two centuries

“Myrna, you see, believed that all humans living South and West of the Hudson River were illiterate cowboys or—even worse—White Protestants, a class of humans who as a group specialized in ignorance, cruelty, and torture. (I don’t wish especially to defend White Protestants; I am not too fond of them myself.)”

“I’ve achieved a brilliant new tactic to come out on top against a numerically superior enemy”
“Is it an actual new tactic or just concentration of force again”
“It’s just concentration of force again”
We’ve reached the beginning of the war(over halfway through I know) and it’s frankly incredible how many cracks are already visible in the hastily sewn seams of the nazi war machine.

Their underlings were fudging the numbers to make them look better than they really were, and even then the Nazis knew they couldn’t beat a combined coalition, but they just went for it anyways. Fascism as the politics of suicide theory has been vindicated yet again

It’s fairly obvious that building an economy on the politics of reaction is going to leave you with a disjointed, self contradictory mess that hurts your people more than it helps, and yet we’re so determined to try it here, today. My stupid Chud country … 💔

“I want to hear nothing, I want to see nothing, I want to know nothing”. So far a truly illuminating look at the maddeningly shortsighted and deeply incompetent attitude of what some morons would tell you was an economic rebirth.
