I’m giving it a second go

ugh...I think I'm going to park this for a while...I'm not particularly keen on post-apocalyptic stories, but I was attracted to this one by several reviews defining it not only very good but, more importantly for me, "different". Well, not enough for me, evidently...I'm finding the writing style too dry and the story not interesting. Not a criticism to the book or to its author, probably just not my cup of tea.

ooof, this is so slow! I'm a huge fan of R N Patterson, but this is so different from his usual style, so flat, so soft....I'm putting this on hold, I'll try to come back later for another go....

Slow, this is a very slow start....page 360 and we are at the end of the first day of the story...lots of flash backs, lots of digressions, lots of reflections. The impression is that the author does a lot of foundational work in this first part of the novel; the story is rooted in a far past, and several connections between the present days and that remote past needs to be planted.
