I've been slowly migrating all my reading activity over to Storygraph, since it is owned by Black women and not Jeff Bezos. I admit that I will still be lurking on here from time to time, as Storygraph hasn't fully built out their author profiles. And also because I don't have any friends on there yet and I like to see what y'all are reading. So friend me over there if you migrate too! @small_giant_plans

The internalized misogyny is strong with this book.

I've been reading this for over a month because it is so tough but Jesus is it a necessary read. And so well-written! I've highlighted so many parts. I hope I finish it by the time my book club meets next week.

This is only my second-ever Nora Roberts. I feel like one day I will finally find a book of hers that works for me, but the writing style of this one is throwing me for a loop. Maybe I'll get into it as we go farther along. Also I've decided this counts as 'Beach on the Cover' for Ripped Bodice Bingo and you can't tell me otherwise.

I got the impression from the first quarter of the book this was gonna be a lesbian enemies-to-lovers (and was Into It) but suddenly a doofy male love interest has come into the picture. Oh well.

I feel like this book has the amazing opportunity to give me an intense threesome and I'm beginning to give up hope that it will deliver on that.

This is far too spoopy for me. Not the best vacation read I could have chosen to start with. Must power through for my Ripped Bodice Bingo Card (stupid YA paranormal square why did I pick this).

I've never read Jane Eyre so I can't comment on whether it's a good adaptation or not but MAN is it moving at a snail's pace. Or maybe I just can't get into it, but am slogging through it for bingo. Either or.

I hate how slow I am reading this but I feel so unsettled by every story. But honestly that is a compliment to Liu’s storytelling as it means all the speculative/sci-fi aspects are SUPER well done, and are making me think about all the things I would very quietly rather not.

This book is BANANAS and I am INTO IT.

Yo I am LOVING all the Avatar the Last Airbender vibes this book is throwing off, but man oh man do I continue to struggle with first-person narration, especially from teens.

I’ve been assuming Hayes is obviously a Harry Styles wannabe, but if both Taylor Swift’s 1989 AND Ed Sheeran’s ‘Don’t’ exist in the universe of the book, then by extension Harry Styles and Niall Horan ALSO have to exist? But August Moon is somehow bigger than 1D and 1D is never mentioned? Riiiiiight. Right.

Maybe it’s been awhile since I was a 12 yo girl, or since I’ve really LOVED something, but I would think that if my mom was hanging with my favorite pop star, I would be thrilled? Everyone is making it sound like this child is gonna straight up murder her mother when she finds out. Like if she was 16 I COMPLETELY would buy that. But 12? 12 seems too young to have an Elektra complex over your mom dating your idol.
