Audiobook read this time. The sharpness of Klosterman always brings me back to the well. His books lend me a clarity of thought I wish I could generate on my own.

It's going more or less the way I thought it would, to be honest. This is written by a man who has a very high opinion of his own ideas, but there is some good tidbits about Judeo-Christian heritage and the weird sense of duty that still afflicts us all. I did learn the word "hyperborean" too, which is my new favorite word.

That H.L Mencken intro was absurdly long and unnecessary.

I get what the guys is saying: if you want to do good, you need to understand what you're doing otherwise you might just be doing good for yourself because doing things to feel good isn't the same thing as doing actual good.

But I find his point poorly argumented. Empathy isn't the source of every evil in the world. It's not something you can isolate and banish from human nature. It's an emotion you need to harness
