Book Gannet > Recent Status Updates

I'm sad because I'm not in the mood for this sort of read right now, but I need to get this read and reviewed because it's my last NetGalley book and I really need a break. Normally political machinations are a few of my favourite things, but I'm a bit bored so far. Hope it will pick up soon. Maybe I'm just grumpy... (Okay, I definitely am, but I'm trying not to let this mess up my view of the book too much.)

I haven't read this in ages, so I'm taking it slow this time. Memories. So many memories.

I have questions, so many questions. Mostly world-building and history related, because how can the world possibly have developed in exactly the same way if humanity has had god-like powers for sixteen hundred years(!). I'm trying not to pick. It's quite hard. I want to be nice because it's a first time author, but I am struggling with this one. I also want to shove Demi out a window... Fun times.

This is reminding me why I've been avoiding YA books of late. Surely not all teenage protagonists have to be this tedious. Oh, well, back to waiting for a single character to show up or do something that I can give a damn about. Not confident.

I really wish publishers would make it clear when they're only offering a sample instead of a full ARC, because it's pretty annoying to suddenly have your reading cut off without warning and not be sure if it's just a terrible cliffhanger ending (RAH!) or the end of pretty hefty sample. Oh well, I have managed to source a paperback ARC, so I guess I'll come back when it arrives...

It sounds great - the Little Mermaid, if the mermaid was a vicious heart-ripping killer who had been raised by the Sea Witch. And yet, at the same time, she's managing to be pretty dull. And the prince is dull. Owning a ship and sailing around killing sirens does not a pirate make, you're just an exotic murderous fisherman who pouts.

Send help...

I'm struggling with this one. Nothing is happening. We're just wandering around. I mean, it's a nice world you've built there, but some actual plot that is relevant to the main character might be nice.

Or we could wander around a bit more and chew some scenery. Yes. Let's do that...

Not liking the heroine much so far. Hope she improves. The hero is adorable.

Not sure if I'll be able to finish this one. I hate the way the heroine thinks of the hero (she has no respect for him), and I'm not all that fond of his hot and cold attitude.

I think I'll leave it for a couple of days and maybe try again. Not looking good, though.

I hardly dare put this book down for fear I'll forget who everybody is! Just how many POV characters does a book need?

Not sure I like the style of this one yet. Too many POV shifts, including to omniscient. This may take a while.
