I’m not far into my reread, but my mind already feels at home marveling over Dickens’ power.

“‘How weak I am,’ said Arthur Clenham…’that I could shed tears at this reception!’ …

He not only could, but did. It was the momentary yielding of a nature that had been disappointed from the dawn of its perceptions, but had not quite given up all its hopeful yearnings yet.”

Really enjoying the reread! A little behind on pace, though…

SPOILERS:
This one is taking me forever to finish...I find it very annoying and not nearly as compelling as ACOMAF. The character development is just BAD. Like, at this point, Feyre has run off by herself once again to get the Ouroboros, RIGHT AFTER she just promised Rhys and Mor and them that she'd at least "leave a note" if she had to run off again like she did to get the Suriel... UGH.

Thoughts so far:
1. Too much vomit. Excessive. It's humorous to me that other references to bodily functions are euphemistic ("seeing to my needs"), but vomit is 100% cool.
2. I still find Feyre really annoying...like, very dramatic, and very bad at understanding herself and others.
3. I'm sad about Tamlin's character development, though I do like Rhys. She did Tamlin dirty.
4. More Lucien, please.

This is my first true reread of Bleak House since I first read it in 2009. I’ve used the first chapter in most of my classes since then, but I wanted to reread so I can enjoy the new Dickens bio. It’s just so good.

Oof. Just finished the chapter called “Jonathan Edwards is Not My Homeboy.” That alone was worth the read.

Does anyone have a compelling reason for me to keep reading this? I hate giving up on a book, but I might.

This was a lovely little novella — definitely not a fully developed work by any means, or as shimmering in its perfection as Pride and Prejudice or Persuasion, but an excellent little character study. Looking forward to using it in my teaching!

Glad I picked this up as a “refresher course” in baby-having. It has already made me feel better about the nursery vs rooming in situation in my Korean hospital!

Really enjoying this so far. The writing is good. That said, I think I can clearly see where the plot is going. I wonder if that’s just a hazard of having read too many books.
