An idea without an ending. At least it’s short…

The ideas in this book are almost a straight lift from Patchett and Baxter's "Long Earth" series. They've replaced the simple potato -based stepping device with a quantum field generator, but beyond that, it's plot plagiarism, pure and simple.

Just when I thought science fiction was becoming repetitive, derivative, banal and poorly written, this book came into my hands. What a gem of originality, wonder, and sweetness! There's a familiar echo of Brin's Uplift works, but Barsk occupies a niche all its own. This deserves to be one of the classics of the genre. Really, a tremendous achievement!
