Am I just an incredibly harsh reader? 😭 I feel like I rarely ever FULLY enjoy a book with my whole chest. Some books I can think of are The Remains of The Day by Kazuo Ishiguro and The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. While writing this I realised there is an obvious commonality between these texts— historical fiction and a journey. Perhaps it's just a matter of finding what texts suit my tastes?

Just finished Yellowface by RF Kuang and I have such mixed feelings about the text 😬 On one hand, I understand that the protagonist is meant to go down this spiral of jealousy, envy and hatred towards Athena and then eventually to her entire race. She's meant to be insufferable. At the same time, it was almost torturous to go through, because RF Kuang is just so heavy-handed about it...

I have a fuck ton of manga to add because I have been reading... A LOT of manga. Apologies in advance.

I feel like the Goodreads DNF feature has freed me from needing to finish books (LOL)!

There were several books I kept on hand thinking, "I need to finish it... I NEED to finish it."

But thanks to antidepressants and said DNF features, my shackles have released, and I'm allowed to DNF books 20% in.

I think 20% is a fair chance at proving to me its worth reading? Should I be reading for longer?

Kinda slaying

I finally finished another book, I'M SO PROUD OF MYSELF!

Just unabashed inceldom all around. It is so fucking crazy what a man like Jordan Peterson can publish in a book. Men who don't get the girl are defeated lobsters or something, idk man...

I've been reading this book more slowly than usual because of corpohell and also trying to genuinely appreciate craft and text and like THIS BOOK IS SO WILD 😭😭😭😭 It's been a while since a book caused my jaw to drop left and right, and not from skepticism, but like genuine shock and horror. 😟 The vibe has been: RIP Emmett, lil bro just doing his bestest

Unsurprisingly, still an absolute fucking drag. And now he's yappering about how great US military in Afghanistan is, which is awesome and so fun to read...

Oh, this book is as gloriously bad as I've seen it be made out to be. And it's awesome. My pet peeve has always been dual-POV books with little differentiation between how the perspectives sound. Guys, dual-POV books is a medium of writing in and of itself, you can't just do it so I can see sex from dick view and vagina view!!!

I really, really disagree with a lot of Obama's opinions! But it is pretty enlightening to see how he mobilised the people and ran a campaign of grassroots. I will not lie and pretend that I don't miss Obama-era politics— the energy and feeling that an individual could change the world. Obviously, it wasn't 100% true then either. But hope is hope. And that matters.

This is one of those moments where I'm grateful to have taken a creative non-fiction class. The writing has none of Michelle Obama's grace and is honestly just difficult (because of the consistent bracket breaks he loves so much). Like I get it, he's a well-travelled man of many experiences, but I think I agree with his self-deprecation here that a more skilled writer could lend some brevity to the work.

More fun classes!!!! I am very excited to move on from classes though I am getting Fatigued

I've spent a lot of time reading through the free rules but man, the player's handbook is where it's at! Every class seems so interesting 🤔 The possibilities of species and class mixes are awesome, and the backstory potential?! Thus far I've read barbarian and bard and I'm the type who's partial to magical characters, but I feel like some fun combos of barbarian x gnome / halfing seem like a good time :)
