God damn this book is good. The art and artifact repatriation is the only sort of weak element, but their story arc hasn’t played out yet, and I am sure it will turn around. The cabal content really slaps but I like when artists give a form to these powerful forces and I have never seen someone do so in such a way that blends the high campiness of the subject matter with a somewhat natural profession

I don’t usually read short fiction, but it it feels like she is repeatedly bowling strikes or performing variations on the same magic trick, and I am not complaining! The critiques on gender dynamics and “being” are thoughtful! The characters’ darker sides achieve whatever shade she strives to evoke whether it’s hostility, numbness, alienation, limpedness, scorn etc. Seamless sci-fi premises too! Read it!
