I find it easy to set this book down and hesitant to ick it up again. I'm not enthralled with the writing, the main character or the plot. It seems unlikely that I will finish the book.

I've just begun this 2018 bestselling novel. I'm only on page 34. The writing is exceptionally good and the story is compelling.

I'm now on the entry "smoke" -- "up in smoke" -- and I'm setting this book aside for a while. I've begun reading a well-written novel called "The Woman in the Window" by A. J. Finn.

I think this is the slowest book I have ever read! (Reread, actually.)
Dickens is recommended reading for screenwriters, so I am reading/rereading him. I've less than 100 pages to go, but wow, it's a challenge to my endurance and persistence.
I do have to admit his vivid use of adjectives is inspiring.

I should be ashamed of how long it's taking me to read this book, but I'm busy writing, so I'm shameless!

Now that I'm living in South America, I visit every little bookstore I can. Some have a few English language books, some don't have any. I'm happy to have found Great Expectations, a book of Arthur Millar's plays, a collection of writings by Colette, a book of prayer, and The Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith (whom I'd never heard of). That (and Netflix) is enough!

A fascinating and important book.
