Clever. Depressing.

If Kindle Unlimited wants to offer it to me for free, I’m not saying no 😂

Just like The Silent Patient, Michaelides’ first novel, the story is so subtly beguiling that I found myself racing through it despite the occasionally clunky writing. And once again I’m left pondering an ending that spins the entire story sideways :)

This is the second in my reread of The Roth Trilogy—the fascinatingly backwards-chronologically mystery series in which a crime in each generation can be better understood by returning to a previous generation. Obviously I’m a fan if I’m rereading :)

No big deal, just this collection of graphic (as in visual) stories is So. Amazing. If ever I were going to write a graphic novels, it would be something like this.

How much did I know about Elizabeth Stuart, briefly Queen of Bohemia, before this book? Only her name. How glad am I that read this biography of her and her daughters? Exceedingly :)

Book 3: in which Adam Dalgliesh gets told off for preferring beautiful, graceful women and then his girlfriend dumps him for his ambivalence :)

The trouble with stories like these is I know what's coming, and it's painful to keep reading knowing how much more trauma is headed Henry and Eleanor's way . . . If I stop in February 1183, does that mean their sons won't die?
