I'm enjoying the series and I like that there's a black character but I do wish the author would make her a little less of a caricature. Once a boom since boom 2 she has complained about her being black and another person being white as reason for the other person having a stunned reaction to something else.

I picked this for something cozy to read on a bad mental health day and the author seems content to repeatedly tell me her FMC is padding from place to place while wearing combat boots (with a glued on sole yet). Combat boots are for walking like you've been sent to murder Captain America. Padding is quiet, like barefoot. I'll get over it, but I had to get it off my chest.

And a Doctor Who reference that leaves me shaking my head.

Star Trek reference. In a serious moment. I approve.

Really? In a fight with high stakes, Strong makes a reference to the Princess Bride. Amusing.

Urgh. Continuity fail. Or a lie about how long a character must refrain from lying. Hm.

Kudos for writing a woman losing her clothes without going into a long, drooly description of her naked body. Not bad, Mr Sanchez

It's an interesting story but a slow read. Also badly in need of an edit. HIPPA? Maybe it's not HIPAA because of the magic in this world but I doubt it.

MC is named Seraphina Azure. She has sapphire eyes. I'm wary already.

What a description of the guy's hair. It (paraphrased) "dances on his head as if it hears music only it can hear"

Hm. I was mildly impressed when author described "chrome women" on the mudflaps w/o going into loving detail on their nudity. But 18 pages in & protagonist is up to the 2nd black man he's killed, yet he's beloved of the Loa??

There ARE never enough of the stuffed mushrooms. Part of my love/hate for Seanan's writing is her tantalizing description of food her cast eats. Always leaves me w/a craving.

argh. Sarah: "I'm a girl. I'm always trying to lose weight." Bleah. Ptui.

Less predictable than the first.

I was pleased to hear 1st person narrator Sarah describe them taking stuff from stores as "looting" but dismayed that she missed whistling construction workers & sexual harassment as "part of normal life".

I don't think I like the use of the word "transitioning" to describe people going from human to zombie.

Yeine has a name that immediately brings to mind the Fifth Element. They can say Yeine's full name if they can say Leeloo's.

Hella problematic. The 1st line alone almost made me put it down. But despite that, the PoC is the hero. Too bad she's also kind of a Mammy.
