I remember a reviewer (I'm sorry anonymous one, I don't remember your name, only your existence) suggesting that at a certain point the author must have realized that the prose was too shallow, so he jazzed things up with odd synonyms and weird syntax choices.

Sadly, I couldn't agree more. Let's see if I can ensure it till the end.
