The most wooden dialogue that I’ve read in ages. Her whole relationship with Tom Buck is just cringey - she vacillates between condescending to him and just assuming she’s the most amazing and he’s lucky to be with her.. ew.

Also, it seems like there’s foreshadowing that someone is after them. Rule 1: don’t leave a paper trail. Discuss things verbally in person. Very annoying

Elements that really bother me so far… - the margin comments read like an ongoing conversation. How many times did they supposedly pass the book back and forth over what time period? Seems like it would have taken forever. Supposedly they never met but there are comments in the margins that refer to things that aren’t in the margin, as though they discussed in person. Maybe it will make more sense later.

This book started out strong but has now devolved into cliche cheesiness - I hope it improves by the end.

Why am I having such a hard time getting in to this book?
