This might be the hardest thing I have ever read. Kuang paints such a vivid picture of the absolute horrors of war and true human evil. It is even harder to read knowing this is based on real witness accounts from WW2 despite being a fantasy novel. First time I have had to put a book down and take a break from reading in a long time.
