Anthony is an absolute prick.

This is a terrible book. Not only is it incredibly badly written, it's like listening to a robot readout a story of what it thinks another robot would find interesting in a family setting, it's also littered with casual racism and horrendous over the top Americanized snobbery.

This is absolute turgid bullshit. I will never read anything by either of these polemicists ever again. It was trending to two star but has now definitively tacked towards one star.

This is a pointless and badly written book. I am glad it will soon be over. I dont see what it adds to anything.

So far this book is an absolutely disastrous pile of nonsense. Astonishing but not surprising that so many people found it "enlightening" (read the reviews) but at the same time, hopeless in it's analytical approach and in fact in everything that it hopes to cover. It is neither a history book, nor a political theorists book, nor an economics text book.

This book is a racist tirade from a flatulent old windbag. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK OR ANYTHING ELSE THIS TEDIOUS WINDBAG HAS WRITTEN.

Example:

This book is total and utter garbage and there is no point to its having been written. There are plenty of other, far better written and researched, right wing perspectives on the Vietnam war. I thought I would give Max Hastings a chance as I had always found his writing style at least a little entertaining. This however, is the worst book I have read in 5 years.

My god, the arrogance of the Blairite free market practitioner circa 2007 was unparalleled in its pomposity. Though many aspects of this book have aged well, its not a bad thought piece on the rise of China itself, the prescription for this sick patient looks hilariously incorrect with the benefit of 12 years hindsight.

Would be good to remind Spectator supported organ of pompous wrath Will Hutton about this today.

This is a very annoying book for the first 300 pages. The use of footnotes is intensely irritating and the way it is written is intensely boring. It needs to improve rapidly...

Christ this is terrible, I cant believe I actually bought this book. It articulates lots of common sense and then preaches at you in a really crass way about how we should pity people from poorer backgrounds and that people who get shit faced deserve our contemptuous sympathy. This is turgid rubbish...
