I don't know if I can handle the meandering of this book just to have to get through another 2 meandering books afterwards. Help

As much as I really want to know what happens in this story, the meandering reminds me of the classics centuries ago when authors used to be paid per word. Thinking there's 3 more books after, almost all of them 800 pages, doesn't make it easier to want to stick with it

I can understand why it'd be seen as necessary but I don't like switching POV between 4+ people and every few pages

This author is going to be the death of me. I've never thought I'd get to sobbing within the first 17 pages of a book but here we are

I am not gonna lie, I am bored out of my mind. The concept is appealing, but the story is so contained it doesn't allow for much fun. We're with three fairly uninteresting characters, and nothing's really happening outside of moving from one place to the next

I do hate when you have to remove any dash of doubt and rational thinking to follow the story without going yeah no every minute

I still don't like it's American-ness and stupid wannabe poetic prose sometimes but the book is growing on me

Abandoning the audiobook cause hearing the narrator read two page long footnotes makes me cringe and takes me out of the story every time

So, this is already a disappointment. I've noticed the huge difference between American authors labeling their books as "gothic" and literally everyone else. From the very beginning I could tell which one this would be. But I don't give up on books before 40-50%, so let's see.

I switched to the audiobook on 2.2 speed and it's still slow and boring so like what else can I do

I kinda gave up on this for now, but I have yet to decide whether it's an actual and final "I give up" or simply that I'm not in the mood for the bullshit right now

I genuinely am not big on romance, when I do read it it's because I need a distraction through some other stupidity. But this book is just so lovely, I can't stop listening to it
