Not loving this so far . . . everyone in the book loves Max so much but it feels like when you read a book and the author keeps telling you about a trait of the main character through other characters but you never see them act in a way that shows that trait. For example, a book where all the other characters keep saying the main character is 'clever' but you never actually see them do or say anything clever.

Reading this for my Drama and Poetry class at my college. My professor sold this as 'one of the greatest plays ever written.' And I know a lot of people who I follow really enjoyed it or it is a favorite for them. This is my first time reading it so I'm going in with kind of high expectations. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Almost done with the audio book of this and it's been a great book except did we really need another 'villain' who is basically just a privileged white guy who can't handle rejection? Most boring of motivations possible. There have been some great twists and turns but I guess that fell flat for me. I wonder if I'm just hyper aware because I'm also reading Dead Girls by Alice Bolin right now.

This is a hard book to read. I was rather shocked by the brutality of the aftermath of the rape for a young adult novel. I literally had an upset stomach reading the first 50 pages or so of this book. It's a very honest look at how trauma effects people and deals skillfully with the subjects of sexual assault, bullying, and identity. Eden is very confused and very angry and her emotions absolutely jump off the page.

All of the men in this book are terrible. Every single one of them has let me down to varying degrees. I literally cannot think of a single one that is not incredibly problematic and doesn't make me go "Yikes." The dad and Sofia's husband are the only ones who are even kind of good guys but even they both have had their moments. I really like the sisters and can't stand seeing what a hard time they are having.

Making me reflect a lot on the legacy that families leave for each new generation in terms of dysfunction.

Still behind but getting a bit done each day, at least. It's as crazy as I remember. This is my first time annotating a book. I feel like I'm getting a lot more out of the reading that way, honestly.
