DNF’d at chapter 15. Sweet Moses, This book went from amazing to a screeching halt! I was listening to the audio version and absolutely adored Neil Patrick Harris. The other narrator did a fine job but the parts he had to read where like listening to someone read the phone book. What started out as a story in a semi straight line, turned into 15 side stories and details that didn’t matter! Too hard to follow.

I like the story, very compelling. But at 60% in, it feels like walking into a room with 20 characters and they all come up to you talking at once. Some are telling current stories, some are telling stories from 20 years ago, some are giving you the history of the world. If you’re going to have THIS many characters, you’ve got to wrap up some loose ends as you go. You can’t have 135 threads!

I’m about to DNF this book. I want to know the story about what Belle did, but every single page, and almost every paragraph, has to reiterate that her skin was pale and she was hiding her background. We know this! I expected a book more about what Belle accomplished.. But this book reads as if the color of her skin was the most interesting part of her.
