ok i get the hype. (also there was a line a while back where it said that one of them carried a secret like a a cup of hot water filled too close to the top or something like that and i haven't read anything so precisely evocative in a vey long time. nice job sally)

not what i expected at all and definitely feeding into my fixation on women descending into madness because they are not convinced of their own personhood but like I’m definitely enjoying it, very well-written

i know it is very much the point but the fact that i hate pretty much every character is making it slightly less fun to read. he's still such a good writer though

so it’s not queerbaiting but it is hogwash

if this is queerbaiting i’m gonna lose my mind

literally why i am reading this right now like it’s really good and i’m far enough in that i’m gonna finish it but simply a poor choice for me

ok i understand from a storytelling perspective why this is happening because i am now desperate to know what happens next and devastated that i have to wait until i leave work to find out but also wtf does she think she’s doing!! as a side note wHY do i keep reading literally the most depressing books i could possibly read i was genuinely fighting back tears as i walked to work listening to it just now asjdjsksjdj

i just accidentally read a vague spoiler and i'm Angry but i have become extremely invested in nao's life (indifferent about ruth to be quite honest) and i hope she's gonna be ok :|

turns out my #1 genre of 2021 is women narrating their own descents into madness while teaching english overseas
