i can’t believe gandalf had his own full horse girl arc with shadowfax and we never see it

why’d he flip so fast. i feel like that was not a good storytelling choice. no back and forth, guys? come on!

i knew he was gonna show up but i did not think it would be less than half way thru the first book of the trilogy???? also i like that R2 is just. also there.

on first read through i thought the lestat/akasha scenes were just talking in circles, maybe implying not the best/most interesting writing. but now, rereading and making my little margin notes, i see how intentional it is. Lestat is good at heart, but distracted by love and has never had to think on such a grand scale. Akasha’s part shows the futility of arguing with someone so self-righteous and self-centered.

interesting that in the book Gandalf is ready to go through Moria and it is Aragorn who is against it. In the movie they make Gandalf against it. Different vibe between reluctance in service of saving a friend vs of saving yourself. maybe it’s bc we don’t know how Aragorn knows there’s a danger (at least I don’t) and it seems more likely for movie-only ppl that a wizard would know futurey stuff
