Terrific book re: the story of Elizabeth Packard, a woman of mid-nineteenth century U.S., a woman whose husband had her declared insane just because he son longer wanted her around. Wonderful research was done by the author into the rights, or lack thereof, of women in the early 1860’s, where women were considered mere chattel belonging to their husbands.

Quite an epic tale. Contains lots of plotting, intrigue, and betrayal. I could do without so much graphic sex scenes. . . many of them rape scenes. The story line itself is terrific.

This book is sooo well written. Of course, that’s what a reader has come to expect from author Walter Isaacson. Such a great story and so well documented.
