I had a Lawrence Durrell obsession years ago, and enjoyed the PBS series Durrells in Corfu. But I was a bit surprised when I read Gerald's My Family and Other Animals at how much I enjoyed it -- so well written, with vivid, bright, luscious descriptions! Now I'm enjoying his 2nd in the trilogy, and despite the fact that he enjoys tiny creatures that give me the creeps, his descriptions are in raging technicolor.

I'm actually enjoying reading this LOL

Ugh. I cannot continue reading this, and it doesn't matter that it won a Pulitzer. Life grows ever shorter and I want and need my precious time spent reading to uplift my soul.

Too dark for me, could not finish.

It's dark, but so well written that I want to keep going...
