The Earth Is Weeping: The Epic Story of the Indian Wars for the American West
Oh my god I am so conflicted about this one. The writing is clear and compelling, but the tone is giving me WHIPLASH. I can’t tell yet if it’s actually extremely well-balanced or if this is just another white guy who *thinks* he holds the objective truth.

Rereading this cracks me up because I think of my mom, who got the doesn’t-like-fiction brand of autism, for whom all fantasy sounds like this.

racist imaginary geography, paternalistic old British lords deciding the fate of “subject races”, and their American intellectual heir Henry Kissinger, what’s not to love :/

I’m going to be so honest, I might just get to the Devil’s Minion chapter (Armand x the interviewer, Daniel Molloy) then dip and call it a day.

When the Rose Speaks Its Name: A Sherlock Holmes Anthology
Reading from this about once a week has become my favorite pattern to mark this season of my life. Two hours, a pot of Earl grey with milk and honey and sometimes chocolate biscuits...

Keen description of that manic quality: 'With Jeremy, when the wind was in the right direction, possibilities became certainties, thoughts became realities, and wishes were the truth.'

I'm reading this only on mornings when I wake up early and have time to chill in bed and drink coffee with the window wide open. It's high pleasure. I love it so much.

Never Let Me Go
Kind of reminded me of a George Saunders short story and not sure it is better for the length. I like how he writes the young people.
