Rereading for research purposes. Having difficulty this round keeping up with the plot, partly because Hammett does very little contextualizing, and you're pretty much figuring things out as Beaumont is.

Just another novel about an alcoholic writer writing about an alcoholic writer writing people into existence. At least 3-4 narrative layers going on. Like Joyce, reads better if you imagine it all told in an Irish accent.

Actually returning to this one after beginning back in 2019.

Book went from being very weird to being very sad. Curious where it goes next.

Finally, some good fucking prose.

About 3/4 through and very enjoyable thus far. Great insights into the problems and complexities of fictional narrative, and I appreciate Eco's ecumenical approach to genre/form.

I suspected I would not like this book, and it's proving to be annoying thus far. Everything I hate about 2010s culture. Maybe it gets better?

Read the portions on Puritans in relation to Indians in college, never read the whole thing, so re-reading and then reading the less. Almost finished!
