Chapter 4 "Portrait of a Young Lady" Very interesting and well-written.

Chapter 11 "Man and Master"

I like the way Grogan has organized the chapters. They are stories that stand by themselves while following the time line of Marley's life.

Chapter 17 "In the Land of Bocahontas." Marley reminds me of our yellow lab, Dusty, who was all puppy and paws when we first got him. He put the meaning into "galumph."

This book was one of the references used by the author of "Mayflower." Interesting.

Nice compliment to "Mayflower."

Enjoying this narrative nonfiction memoir about a beloved pet.

Very interesting read not only concerning the story of the Mayflower and its passengers, but in also continues into the history of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Enjoying it very much.

Interesting read for an Anne Perry fan. So far, I don't see any "real crime" readers staying with the story because there are no sensational details.

Doris Kearns Goodwin easily weaves the importance of being a baseball fan and a Catholic into an enjoyable word tapestry. At her First Confession, she considered her worst sin was to go to an Episcopal church to see Ray Campanella. Priceless.

Interesting follow up to the book I just finished, "Wives of Los Alamos." Both began in 1943, but one addresses life in war, and the other addresses life in New York City and its boroughs.

Story told in snapshots, not narrations. Well crafted, but still not sure I like the style.

Different kind of memoir--the story is told as a group with plural pronouns. As the Los Alamos project was secret in 1943, the mystery is conveyed on the book cover and in the story.

Through diary entries, I am learning about the lives of Union soldiers who seemed to have had a lot of on-the-job training before going into battle.

Interesting read. Learning about patriotic stirrings in Greene County as the country prepares for war after the 2-day attack on Ft. Sumter in April 1861.

Discovered this book when I was researching my LINTON and ABEL families and couldn't discover what they were doing during the Civil War.

This ia a s story of an inquisitive and sensitive young woman's coming of age during the changes of post-war Richmond,Virginia.

Chapter 10--The Other Civil War

Suspicious actions are driving the team apart.

Women were residents of the United States, they were property, but they weren't citizens. Women began resisting the attempt to keep them in their "woman's sphere" in the 18302, 1840, and 1850s.

Beginning of basketball season in a small Florida high school. Who's going to be on the team?

Chapter 6--The Intimately Oppressed. "Eighteen married women came over on the Mayflower. Three were pregnant, and one of them gave birth to a dead child before they landed. One of those women was Elizabeth HOPKINS, second wife of Stephen HOPKINS, and she gave birth to Oceanus who died seven years later in 1627.

I was with a group of young people exploring a dry cave in the Catalina Mountains in Arizona. We got lost although the cave walls were clearly marked. Unfortunately, there were too many marks. My companions problem solved and got us out of there. How much energy is wasted when youth are prevented from participating in real problem solving situations.

Chapter 5--A Kind of Revolution
It's interesting to "see" the world of my ancestors. I always claimed to be a member of the NAR--Nieces of the American Revolution. My grandfathers didn't fight. They went west to get away from the war. Many of my uncles fought. Only the Reverend Samuel Trowbridge from Winchester, VA is my only grandfather who has documentation of being in the American army.
