So this is basically Les Mis fanfic (nothing wrong with that), but it's enjoyable and treads a bit of new ground in filling in the gaps. High school me would have loved it. It's much better than Kalpakian's Cosette.

This book is kind and of trashy and definitely a sexist product of its time, but a fun Summer read. I am amusing myself by picturing Lucy from Disenchantment as the Bad Thing.

I am reading this for a class that I’m taking, but it’s extremely useful for my job especially this year! And it makes me happy that I’ve been doing a lot of this stuff without really knowing what I’m doing! :)

Love this one. I want to buy it. Makes up for that last one!

This book is not great. I’m fact, it’s kind of irritating. However, I want to know what happens so I’ll keep reading.

This book blows me away. Addie is a fantastic narrator and I’m rooting for her and Long Boy all the way. Reminiscent in tone to Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man.

This book makes me want to learn Greek. I’ve always wanted to but I’m intimidated by using a new alphabet.

This book is fantastic but I can only read bits at a time because it makes me feel creepy-crawly. The last book that did this to me was Angels and Insects (well, the “Morpho Eugenia” story) which I read in college.

I usually get bored with romance novels but this one is fun and sweet in a non-cloying way. Gives me flashbacks to when I used to work near that part of Brooklyn once upon a time.

Great so far…I’m wondering if the Harriet the Spy references were deliberate. They notebook, male best friend, precocious beyond her years, absentee parents, tomato sandwiches…

So dead on accurate that it’s almost scary.

Jack is horrid and a mad scientist. I adore her. And there are two books about her. Just reserved the rest of the series from the library.

There are good ideas in here but your entire school would have to be on board with it to make it actually work.

When I student taught, my coop teacher said every educator should read this one. I agree. It’s lovely.

I love this protagonist. A pessimistic and pragmatic musicologist. I used to be one of those.

This book is an absolute delight. Delphine is such a great narrator / character. Reminds me a bit of Daisy Fay from Fannie Flagg’s novel bc you need to read between the lines to see what’s really going on. I’ll be getting the other two (this is for a summer book club).

So basically, Lyell is Zapp Brannigan.
