This is proving a tricky one to get through. The treatment of women in the 1600s is making my blood boil. The descriptions of them, how they were treated...it's horrifying. Possibly the scariest book I've read in a while - but entirely captivating, well written, and I can't put it down!

I am not getting on with this at all. The characters just do not appeal to me and I'm struggling to see how they've come to making some of their choices. I'll pursue it but I sense I won't be returning to the next 3 books :(
