Just a random book I found on the street in Paris but it seems interesting as the author basically gives the reader the chance to hear from each character individually as if they're interviewed. I haven't read anything like that before or I don't remember at least

It is an interesting experience to read about after you sae the movie. I don't think I've done thag before. I have all the details very much impregnated in my head and I can see where the movie diverts from the original text. It's also beautiful to read some nuances that in the movie maybe I didn't catch them.

The introduction was so dense and it felt unnecessary to 'oblige' readers to read such an academic essay before they even start reading the novel per se. It kinda killed my enthusiasm, but slowly getting it back.

After seeing Luca Guadagnino's film adaptation of this book, I stumbled upon it 3 days later in a bookstore and felt it's meant for me to read it now. And see the movie again :)

The narrative is so beautifully written, softly changing between timelines. It's comforting and surprising how much I resonate with the feelings and behaviour of the main character, although we grew up in totally different contexts. I suppose growing up as a queer boy is a similarly universal experience, fighting the desire to observe other boys and struggling with the thoughts of existing outside the normative.

Just bought this book in Berlin, I'm so excited to read it! I know it has a lot of references to Giovanni's Room and after reading it last summer I'm thrilled to see how these two Polish 1980s characters are referencing it 😍

Abia am început s-o citesc și mi-e foarte dragă deja!

Începe molcom cartea. Are unele glume sau referințe care m-au lasă rece (sau cu o sprânceana ridicată – cum justifică autorul rasismul?), dar e foarte ușor de digerat, pentru că unele subcapitole au și câte 2 pagini. Așa că am citit și citit și la un moment dat am realizat că ușor-ușor pare că se mișcă roata narațiunii. Iar eu sunt prins în ea și sar de pe-o roată pe alta.

Ce observ până acum e că citesc o carte foarte bine scrisă, unde râzi și-ți vine să plângi la o distanță de câteva rânduri. Și presărată cu multe multe expresii care dau substanță textului și contur personajelor.

i'm quite conflicted. i like how moravia writes, but i don't really understand or like how he's portraying women. especially in the 3rd version of the story, as if he looked specifically into making women literal objects in this work.

Idk about other readers but sometimes I have the need to match my emotional turbulences with a specific style or theme, otherwise I cannot concentrate. Out of four books awaiting to be chosen next to my bed this one seems to match what I need right now – a personal view into the life of two young men, a sort of bromance with a political touch. Curious to see how it goes 👀

I have rarely encounter books that are academic but accessible and captivating at the same time. This is one of them. Although I have to say I've reached a point of tiredness that pushes me back from continuing reading this, but I think it's more about me and than the book.

sunt tentat să renunț la carte pentru că mă plictisește narațiunea care e tipică sec. 19, plus idolatrizarea bisericii. sunt și grele de citit notițele lui/ale Herculine pentru că nu au nicio întrerupere, sunt 100 de pagini fără pauze. dar continui pentru că acum începe punctul cel mai important al povestirii

mi-a plăcut mult prefața lui Michel Foucault despre 'adevăratul sex' și obsesia din secolul 19 despre acest subiect și cum critică el această manie a vremii
