some moments have me convinced the dungeon is gonna turn Carl into a villain eventually. really some heart breaking shit going on so far in this book and then also…dinosaur sex? listening to the dinosaur sex while walking around the skywalk during lunch break with all the suits walking past me is peak comedy

truly surreal to read a book where they are discussing the ethics of carpet bombing and what was thought about this “tactic” back when it first became a reality. the mental gymnastics some of these dudes were doing to justify killing civilians…I wish it didn’t so clearly echo what we still see today

I feel like screaming at the page about the irony of this Air Force base Chapel designed out of planes and worth a bazillion dollars being a metaphor for this county and our military worshipping violence

I just want the AI to be on their side by the end so bad lmaoo. I have so many bad feelings about whatever could happen by the end of this book

As noted several pages earlier, efforts to conduct the census in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have not been feasible in some time. It makes me sad because I have touched with my own hands final census documents from this time period for the region so I know how hard it is to accurately map internal country boundaries but some maps showing the change in the DRCs boundaries over time would be nice for this

It is a little odd that we as the reader have very little stake in caring about Mayra? by that I mean like we have to buy in to Senlin’s love for her rather than develop much love for her ourselves. it’s why I feel like im spending the whole story waiting for the other shoe to drop in whatever situation is going on here

I wanted to listen to this because of the strict scrutiny podcast & I care about what goes on at the Supreme Court. But also because the vibe of this book gives something like girl math which should be a cute harmless trend but can be used to “justify” believing women are not/not as intelligent. HOWEVER I think this is also the social patriarchal norms that offput me to her style & I wish to challenge that

I wish John Green had been my biology/life science teacher because it was always the science class that bored me. (Ironic considering the environmental science degree I know).
