Reading this at the recommendation of my coworker:

Process knowledge being lost “looking to people to embody to eternity” - this is the most important environmental lesson of the book so far. And yet I feel like the author doesn’t really interact with the most interesting things he brings up. Could this have to do with censorship?

This book makes me mad. It’s interesting.

I keep saying this book is a weak entry but every time the AI does its thing I just get chills and hype. It’s my favorite part. And I know that the last 15% of this book is going to be insane. So I’m just writing out that I think it’s like a solid solid 3 before the last bit here, I’m curious how much I’m impacted by the ending

fire slay I think I would find this creepy if I didn’t think it was so intriguing. I like that the main character is a woman, it feels like this is the type of book where the main character is often a man by default

At first I was not a fan and was going to put it down but it has really grown on me. The political intrigue is good but specifically the religious aspect is interesting. Father Veronica is a great example of someone who not only truly believes but also truly follows and cares. And then of course you have the soulless shallow bishop who is our false prophet. Very fun. Very worried she will die lmao

some moments have me convinced the dungeon is gonna turn Carl into a villain eventually. really some heart breaking shit going on so far in this book and then also…dinosaur sex? listening to the dinosaur sex while walking around the skywalk during lunch break with all the suits walking past me is peak comedy

truly surreal to read a book where they are discussing the ethics of carpet bombing and what was thought about this “tactic” back when it first became a reality. the mental gymnastics some of these dudes were doing to justify killing civilians…I wish it didn’t so clearly echo what we still see today

I feel like screaming at the page about the irony of this Air Force base Chapel designed out of planes and worth a bazillion dollars being a metaphor for this county and our military worshipping violence

I just want the AI to be on their side by the end so bad lmaoo. I have so many bad feelings about whatever could happen by the end of this book

As noted several pages earlier, efforts to conduct the census in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have not been feasible in some time. It makes me sad because I have touched with my own hands final census documents from this time period for the region so I know how hard it is to accurately map internal country boundaries but some maps showing the change in the DRCs boundaries over time would be nice for this

I just want the other shoe to drop I am reading only because I’m upset and I want this book to do something to give meaning to it’s self harm porn
